LIFT UP WITH AJC’S SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE; TIKKUN OLAM ON FIRST FRIDAYS

In June, 2009 LIFT-UP opened the Aspen/Snowmass food pantry in response to the growing need for food aid caused by the economic downturn.  To date, this pantry has provided help to over 1000 of our neighbors.  Basic items that the pantry needs include: soup, beans, pasta and sauces, macaroni and cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, tuna and cereal.  The congregation will be collecting food on the first Friday of every month and at Rosh Hashanah services at Harris Hall.  By giving, you not only show your support for those who have so little, but also you express your gratitude for what you have so much of!

If you would like to know more about this committee and ways in which you can better our world, please contact Aimee at aimeeyllanes@mac.com.

Leadville Jewish Cemetery Clean-up

Did you know that the congregation has participated in a wonderful community mitzvah for many years? B'nai Brith-Denver, B'nai Vail, and the AJC have come together each summer to help maintain the Jewish cemetery in Leadville. The first Jewish settlers to migrate westward settled in this historic mining town and although the Jewish population has dwindled in the area, the cemetery's fences are painted, the weeds weeded, and new tombstones are dedicated annually!

The Leadville Cemetery Clean-up Event 2009 was not only gratifying for those who attended, but lots of fun too!
Thank you to those who came and to those who could not but donated much needed gardening equipment!
Please do think about helping out next year!

Donations to support the Cemetery are welcome throughout the year.
Checks can be made out to:
